Abstract
Hydrophobic nanocoatings offer a fluorine-free alternative to traditional PFOA/PFOS treatments for textile stain resistance. This study evaluates the performance of two commercial sol-gel derived coatings, SCHN 135 (Integricote™) and CaptureCoating™ (CurranBiotech™), on carpets, cotton, polyester, and other fabrics. Treated and untreated samples were assessed using AATCC 193 (aqueous liquid repellency), AATCC 118 (oil repellency), AATCC 22 (spray test), AATCC 175 (stain resistance), and static contact angle measurements. SCHN 135 (A+F2 formulation) achieved the highest performance, with ALR ratings of 8 and OR ratings up to 6 on cotton and nylon substrates, and Red 40 stain resistance of 10. All measured contact angles exceeded 90°, confirming hydrophobic behavior. CaptureCoating™ also showed initial hydrophobicity but 94 exhibited faster absorption over time. These results demonstrate that SCHN 135 provides durable, non-toxic stain and liquid repellency suitable for residential and commercial textiles, while Capture Coating™ targets enhanced aerosol capture in air filtration media
