Abstract
Duke Energy is one of the top 10 energy producers in the US. In a period of transformation over the last decades, Duke emerged from being a sleepy, regional electric utility to one of the largest energy companies in the world. Its executives, managers, and line employees have experienced unprecedented change as the company has grown and acquired new divisions, new people, and new cultures. During this growth transformation, ecological damages such as spills from Duke Energy coal ash retention ponds have upset the balance of the Dan River, an important water resource.
